MATF-01 was chosen as one of 12 US&R teams to serve as a Heavy Rescue Team at the Summer Olympics in Atlanta, Georgia. MATF-01 served for one week. For reference purposes, our tour of duty began the day after Flight 800 went down off of Long Island and ended the day before the Olympic bombing.
GETTING THERE

Flown to Atlanta in the US Air Force's finest aircraft, the C-17. Roomy, lots of light even a real on board bathroom.
HOME AWAY FROM HOME

The entire Task Force poses for a group shot in front of the 4 Western Shelters that served as home for the Olympic tour of duty.

HELO OPERATIONS

Blackhawk helocopters served as our transportation for insertion into the Olympic Ring. Everyone including our advance gear got a ride over Atlanta. Who's head is poking out the gunner's window?
HAVING FUN TOO

A skit being performed at the Training Tent. Can anyone identify everyone left to right? My first guess is Buxbaum, ?, ?, Morrisey, Linsky, ?, Giunta, Carey, Gomes, Byrne, Lynch, Murphy, ?, Lewis.
GOING HOME

Going home in a C-141. Compare to photo of C-17 above. This plane was 30 years old! The team looks beat too. The Olympic Bomber struck 11 hours later.
